Nokia 5800 - Why I Simply Adore This Phone

Nokia, the king of mobiles, 00004000 has launched the supposedly iphone killer, the 5800 XpressMusic. Nokia has reportedly shipped their millionth piece of the 5800, and this is a reason to cheer as the phone has only been on the market for a couple of months. This article will give you some technical details of the phone, and why I love this phone.

Weight & Display

The Nokia 5800 is a compact phone measuring 111 X 51.7 X 15.5 mm, and it is only 109 grams in weight. It is also impressive to note that it boosts a 3.2" widescreen touch display. It has a 640 x 360 pixel nHD resolution, supporting up to 16 million colours. The automatic orientation sensor is also present, but the only thing that I don't like about this phone is that the automatic orientation sensor doesn't respond immediately (lapse time of around 1-2 seconds). Other than that, the display itself makes the 5800 a perfect gadget for surfing the internet and watching videos.

Input Options

You can choose to use the stylus, plectrum or simply use your fingers. You do not really need to use the stylus or plectrum. The sensitivity is just right; there are several phones in the market that are not as sensitive. There is a full and mini QWERTY keyboard, and an alphanumeric keypad, which makes messaging and sending emails easy. The buttons are big enough for people like me with clumsy fingers, so you can be sure you are hitting the right letters everytime. There is also a handwriting recognition function.
This phone also takes voice commands, such as messaging, media, profiles, bluetooth & contacts.

Music Functions

There is no way I could resist the opportunity to download every song on the Nokia Music Store for free for a full year. 5800 "comes with music" and the cost of the phone itself is more than enough to cover the costs of downloading all the songs you love. The 5800 has a superb digital music player where you can sort out your songs in playlists. The sound quality is the best so far from Nokia, with integrated stereo speakers with surround sound system, and dedicated sound chip for hi-fi sound quality.

Camera & Video

The 3.2 megapixel camera is good enough to take pictures of print quality. The lens are from Carl Zeiss, with 3 times digital zoom and auto focus. You can also take pictures at night with its dual LED flash. And if you find your pictures boring, you can edit them using the photo editor, with basic functions such as adding text, clipart, black & white effects, etc. You can also record videos up to 90 mins length or more (depending on the size of the memory card). There is also a secondary camera for video conferencing and taking self pictures.

Memory

It has an internal memory of 81MB, with an included 8GB microSD memory card, expandable up to 16GB. 8GB is good enough for all your favourite songs, videos and pictures. You can store all your favourite songs from the Nokia Music Store, which counts to nearly 2,700 songs in the 8GB memory card.

Accessories

There are several wireless headsets that you can choose from. Enjoy music with these headsets without all the messy wires. There are also a number of speakers that you can consider if you love to blast your music at home. And yes, there is also a stand for you to place your 5800 for easy viewing of videos.

All in all, this is my first touchscreen phone and I am so in love with it. If you are a music lover, this is a must-get phone!
